Fielday Marketplace · Austin

Fielday built a two-sided farm marketplace on Mercury's API in a summer

Sixty producers, one checkout, and payouts that split themselves, built by a team of three.

Producers on one checkout

The idea

Fielday lets people in central Texas buy directly from small farms, with one cart across every producer and one delivery. That is a marketplace, and marketplaces are where most commerce platforms give up: multiple sellers, split payouts, per-seller inventory and shipping rules, all inside a single checkout.

Why Mercury

The team of three had a summer and no appetite for a custom back end. Mercury models a store as any number of catalogs sharing customers and checkout, so each producer became a catalog with its own stock and pickup schedule. Payouts are ledger splits configured per catalog, and the Stripe Connect adapter moves the money.

  • Producers manage their own products in the standard admin, scoped to their catalog.
  • Customers see one cart and pay once; Mercury splits the order into per-producer fulfillments.
  • Delivery routes are generated from fulfillments through a webhook into the team's own routing service.

The build

Storefront in Nuxt, hosted on the edge. The whole integration is under four thousand lines, most of it the routing service. Fielday launched with sixty producers in August and processed its first hundred thousand dollars before the end of the season.

We spent the summer on the parts that make Fielday Fielday. Mercury did the parts that make it a store.

Fielday self-hosts on two virtual machines and a managed Postgres, and has never needed a third.
